Cream Puff

Hari Ahad yang lalu Aiman a.k.a Abang tak nak lunch. Kenyang... Kami semua terperanjat sebab dia baru balik dari tuition dan habis tuisyen straight balik rumah. Tak singgah di mana2 pun.... Hurmmmm... Then dia bagitau kenyang sebab banyak makan cream puff kat tempat tuition. Aunty Ina bagi makan cream puff... Ina's husband buat add math tuition kat a few of their daughter's friends..... dan dalam group tu Abang is the only boy...So everytime Aunty Ina buat kuih, Abang selalu tukang perabih.... Ada at one time tu dia sibuk suruh Akak ambil dia cepat, sebab tak  mau makan kuih hijau with chocolate sauce... Kuih hijau and chocolate sauce?? Semua orang tertanya2 kuih apa lah pulak tu. Akak dan saya pun suruh dia describe kuih tu. Kami dah jadi macam polis pencen. Bila dia habis described then kita orang semua ketawa... Oh kuih JLo rupa2 nya... Tau apa kuih JLo ni? Kuih lopes lah....

So bila Akak dengar dia makan cream puff, Akak pun nak makan jugak... Mula2 dia kata dia nak buat... So lepas solat zohor, Akak pergi kedai beli telur. Telur pulak dah habis. Masa tu Kakak saya dari Mersing ada di rumah.... So petang tu kami berkumpul di dapur buat cream puff... Masa sibuk2 buat cream puff baru kami perasan, Akak tak buat pun cream puff... Saya buat dia tengok sambil online... bertuah betul anak dara saya ni... Dia kata; "Umi dah buat, tak perlulah Akak nak menyibuk".. ish, ish...

Mula2 saya plan nak buat evening walk dengan my sister... Jln di keliling taman tempat saya tinggal.... Kami plan nak jalan after 6pm, masa tu dah tak berapa panas... Lepas asar sementara nak tungu pukul 6 petang, kami pun hidang lah cream puff for tea.... Seronok kami semua duduk bersembang sambil makan, sedar2 dah dekat maghrib.... So kami berdua did our evening walk kat dining table jer lah petang tu......

Inilah cream puff untuk tatapan semua....

Chocolate Vanilla Marble Jelly

Last saturday, Batrisyia dan Aiman pergi sekolah. My Hubby pulak seperti biasa golfing. So tinggal Afiqah (my eldest daughter) and I at home. Apa nak buat.... Baju dah masukkan dalam washing machine, nak mengadap computer malas lah pulak.

Teringat pulak Afiqah a.k.a Akak nak makan jelly marble, based on my late mother's recipe. Biasalah kan recipe orang dulu2 mana ada specific berat or amount for the ingredients. Semua main secukup rasa. So, kali ni saya cuba convert "agak-agak" kepada specific amount. Let start....

Ingredients:
  • 1 packet (37.5gm) agar-agar
  • 1.5l water
  • 3 whole eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 8 tablespoons custard powder
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 500ml milk (or 1 can evaporated milk)
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 vanilla pod (1teaspoon vanilla extract)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Agar-agar

In a medium to large saucepan combine water and the whole packet of agar-agar. Cook over medium heat and stir occasionally. Let it slowly come to a boil.

Add sugar (once the agar-agar is completely dissolved). Add vanilla pod or extract and salt once the sugar is dissolved.

Eggs

custard and cornstarch

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the flour and the eggs.

Add milk to the mixture. I used fresh milk, but my late mother always used a can of evaporated milk. Whisk until smooth.

Once the sugar is dissolved, slowly, pour the egg mixture into the agar-agar mixture. Strain the egg mixture, if you want a smooth jelly.

Whisk the mixture until smooth and thicken. Make sure to cook under medium heat. Do not boil. Remove from heat, stir in butter. Divide the mixture into two parts (two separate mixing bowls).

Mixed cocoa powder in one of the mixture.

Spoon the vanilla mixture into the mould. I just used a big bowl. However, you can use any jelly mould, any shape and any size....

alternately spoon chocolate mixture

Chill the jelly for a few hours....

To invert the jelly, press the edges down slightly with a spoon and it should be able to invert onto a serving plate easily.

If you use big bowl like mine, you can always cut it into any shape and any size .....

Enjoy

Birthday, Birthday and Birthday

Birthday, birthday and birthday..... Ramai pula celebrated birthday in April, my eldest sister, my father, truly yours, Husna (Adik's best friend) and a few more friend and relatives.... Saya buat birthday cakes for them but not for myself.

Yesterday, staff at the office gave me a slice of carrot cake for my belated birthday cake. Ingat juga dia orang...

Carrot cake is my favorite. They bought it from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Sedaaaapppp. Thanks Arfa, Fadz, Mazy and Zainal.

I made this cake for Meera (Akak's friend). She ordered for her brother, Anuar, who was celebrating his 16th birthday last month. She told me that her brother is a bookworm and loves basketball. So I made book cake with basketball player figurines as the deco.

Choc moist cake covered with fondant icing.

Princess cake ini saya buat untuk Husna (kawan baik Adik). Adik told me Husna loves green color, so, I decided to dress the Princess with green dress.

Vanilla cake with orange buttercream filling.

I wish I have pinggang seramping Princess ..... Yeah right....

My Princess Cake for Husna Birthday and photo frame from Husna for my birthday

Last weekend my hubby invited his staff and office mates to our house for breakfast. I made mixed fruits trifle for the dessert. (The rest of the food, I ordered from a few places.) I baked the sponge vanilla cakes a day in advanced then I made the custard on the day I assembled the trifle. I din't use the readymix cake and custard. For me the homemade cake and custard taste better.
The trifles....

By the way, I told Abang and Adik, I am planning to make Lychee Trifle for them.... Tapi bila????
